You may have noticed the buzz online about Torrie Creamer, who used a LivingSocial boot camp deal to kick start a complete body and lifestyle transformation. (Impressive is an understatement.) We recently caught up with Torrie to discuss what prompted her leap into fitness, the challenges and rewards along the way, and her commitment to inspiring others along a similar track.
When and why did you first join LivingSocial?
I joined LivingSocial in 2010. I came across the site online and saw that there were discounts for almost anything and everything. My husband and I both work full time jobs and, like many middle-class families, are living paycheck to paycheck. LivingSocial gave us opportunities to go to that fancy restaurant on date night or take the kids to play golf on family day. And best of all, I got to treat myself to a massage on my birthday.
How did you come across this deal for Bootcamp for Women-Body by Ken?
About three years ago, I began feeling really sorry for myself. I heard friends making overweight jokes, spent all my free time napping, and felt like more of a roommate to my husband than a wife. I turned to my mom and told her how I was feeling while crying on her shoulder. Later that week, I received an email at work. My mom had forwarded me a LivingSocial deal — four weeks of boot camp classes for only $25. I told myself that I had to give it a shot. If that LivingSocial deal did not come into my life at that moment, my life might now have turned out the same.
What was the most difficult part of your journey? The most rewarding?
The hardest part was early on when I fell down in the sand. It took three trainers to get me back on my feet. I was humiliated. I wanted to quit so many times, but the pep talks from my trainer and support from my family kept me moving forward.
One of the most rewarding moments was when I heard my son say, “Mom, you’re getting skinny!” Also, I had an amazing amount of energy — no more naps for this mama! As I progressed in the program, I came to realize that inspiring women facing similar challenges would be my new goal. Trust me ladies, I can relate. It is key to believe in yourself to begin making positive changes in your life.
How exactly do you plan on helping others?
I want to use all the resources at my disposal to be a source of encouragement. We live in a world with so many communication channels and I plan to use them all. I want to spread #healthyhugs! I’m just a regular girl from Norfolk, VA, that wants to spread a message of positivity. Once you let go of all the excuses, doors will open.
