As a user, you also have access to our other subject areas at LivingSocial.com. You can catalog and review your favorite books, beer, movies, games, music, and restaurants in one place. If you use the application through one of the social networking sites, such as Facebook, your collection and friends will automatically share between both Facebook and our external site.

”Why join LivingSocial.com?” you ask?

LivingSocial.com provides the richest and fastest experience for managing your collection and sharing information between your friends. A few of the biggest benefits of joining LivingSocial.com include:

Share your collection and friends across multiple social networks

If you are using multiple social networks, LivingSocial.com allows you to share your collection across all of the major social networks (Facebook, MySpace, Orkut, Hi5, and Bebo.) Additionally, all of you friend connections and profile information become available on all of our sites and applications. Linking only takes a minute of your time and allows us to provide a seamless experience for you.

Export your collection

We’ve created a new export option to a comma-separated values file (CSV) of your entire collection. You can use this file to integrate your entire collection with a third party app, or you can just print out your collection and take it with you wherever you go.

Update your Collection Remotely with our iPhone App

Coming Soon! We are very excited about our new iPhone application, which is currently in Beta. The app not only offers complete access to your existing collection, but you can search the library for a specific entity, and add a new entity, rate, review, and upload photos directly to your collection. We hope to have the iPhone application ready-to-go within the next couple weeks.

Access your Collection with Syndication Tools

We’ve heard your requests that you want to display your collections in a wide variety of places. From your Facebook profile page to your own web site, we want you to display your collection as you see fit! We’ve made and are continuing to work on a few key improvements to make this happen:

  • RSS-feeds: RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing news and information that allows you to easily stay informed. We’ve created an RSS feed for your home page so that you can stay up to date with the latest reviews, ratings, and entities added by all of your friends.

  • Click to continue to see how to use RSS on LivingSocial.com…

  • Widget: Coming Soon! Also coming soon is a new, fully customizable and distributable widget that you can display across the web. The widget will allow you to show off your recent activity, your collection, and even the lists you’ve created in any combination. Plus, this flash-based widget will automatically size itself to fit on any website.

Facebook Gets a Makeover 1

As most of you have probably noticed, Facebook is getting its first facelift and that means several big changes to the site you have come to love. Here at LivingSocial, we've taken the time to write a few helpful hints to ease the transition and make sure that you can find everything you are looking for.

All of the components in BrewSocial continue to work in the same way you are used to. While we have a bunch of new updates on the horizon, we figured the Facebook changes were enough to deal with for the time being.

Below are a few step-by-step guides to some of the most common requests we get from users of BrewSocial:

Add a Tab to Profile ("Beer")
+ In Facebook's Nav Bar at the top of the page, mouse over the "Applications" option
+ Click on the "Edit All Applications" link
+ Click on the "Authorized" link
+ In the "Facebook Applications" area, find the "BrewSocial" row
+ In that row, click on the "Edit" link
+ In the "Edit BrewSocial Settings" window, click on the "Profile" tab
+ Click the "add" link for the "Tab" option
+ Click the "Okay" button to save this change

Add Profile Box to Boxes Tab

+ In that row, click on the "Edit" link
+ In the "Edit BrewSocial Settings" window, click on the "Profile" tab
+ Click the "add" link for the "Box" option
+ Click the "Okay" button to save this change

Add Profile Box to Wall
+ In Facebook's Nav Bar at the top of the page, mouse over the "Applications" option
+ Click on the "Edit All Applications" link

+ In the "Facebook Applications" area, find the "BrewSocial" row
+ In that row, click on the "Edit" link
+ In the "Edit BrewSocial Settings" window, click on the "Profile" tab
+ Click the "add" link for the "Box" option

+ Go to Your Facebook Profile. Click the "Boxes" tab
+ Find the BrewSocial profile box. Click the pencil icon in the top right corner of the box.
+ Click "Move to Wall tab"

Facebook’s new Publisher

Publisher is one of the most anticipated features of the new Facebook design. Publisher allows your friends to interact with your wall beyond the standard wall post. For example, by using the Publisher for BrewSocial, you can quickly recommend, discuss, or ask to borrow a book on any friends’ wall whether they have BrewSocial or not. At LivingSocial, we think you’ll find the publisher to be one of the best new components of the Facebook redesign.

+ To add BrewSocial to publisher:
+ Go to your profile or any of your friends’ profiles
+ Click the grey down arrow directly below the “Logout” link.
+ Select BrewSocial

Publisher is now available on your profile and all of your friends’ profiles.

Expanding feed stories

Facebook has changed how news feed stories work. Currently, the stories generated display as "one-line," text only stories. If you visit the Wall page on your profile and hover over a feed story you can click to "expand" the story to a larger size. The larger feed story sizes (short and full) display the cover images.

Additionally, as you rate and review books, Facebook will automatically prompt you to select the size of your feed stories. We recommend using the Full story setting, and clicking the “Save my answer for BrewSocial.”

Friends + Beer = Awesomeness 1

Here at BrewSocial, we've been spending a lot of time figuring out how we can improve one of the most important pages within site: the beer page. We thought that was incredibly important, because well, the site is all about beer after all! A few key things we tried to improve:

- Your friends: Something that we've been working on for some time is the ability to let you know if you're friends have tried a beer or have any opinions on the beers you're looking at. So, you'll now see a new "Your Friends" section if one of your friends has the beer on their list. Things like reviews and ratings will also show up. And don't worry if you're on a page and you don't see the section; it just means that none of your friends have added that beer to their fridge.

- Less cluttered look and feel: We wanted to make the things that are really important really jump out at you. Hence, it should be very easy to change the status of the beer on your shelf and to read the reviews of others. Additionally, we tried to make the picture one of the first things you will see!

- A new area to manage your relationship with the beer: We've created a new area in the top right of the page that should easily let you add the beer to your shelf and rate it. Now you can easily do this in one place!

As always, please either pass along thoughts, comments and suggestions either in the comments section of this blog or to feedback@livingsocial.com. And don't forget to check out the new design and functionality on our other verticals like ReelSocial and TuneSocial.
