Can't find a book? Add it! 42

We know our book database isn't perfect (although we'll never stop trying!), so we've created the ability for you to add books we're currently missing. At the bottom of each search result, you'll see a link that says "Still nothing? You can add the book to our catalog yourself!". From there, it's a simple two-step process.

1) Enter the correct information for the book onto the page (Author/Title/ISBN). ISBN is the best may to make sure there are no duplicates, so it might be worth the effort to spend the extra time finding the ISBN before you upload.




2) We'll search for potential duplicates. Confirm it is not already listed. This should hopefully help you out in case you accidentally misspelled an entry. As you can imagine, in the example I show here, Harry Potter is already in our database, so I won't choose to add it again.




We hope this lets you maintain a more accurate collection, is easy to use, and provides a better experience on ReadingSocial by letting you guys help us build an even better database.

    if you could add "return to summerhouse" by Jude Deveraux I would be so happy. It is a new book and it is awesome. The 1at book summerhouse was also amazing.

    I really like this feature since most of the books I read are in Chinese and could not be found in the existing database. However I have a dilema for books that are translated to Chinese. I am not sure if I should add a new book or the English version from existing database to my bookshelf. Adding a new book is good because it is the actual book that I read, but I would miss the reviews, discussions and auto-recommendation from the application. Just wondering if we could link a new book to another book in the existing database so that we could have the beauty of both worlds... :)

    Still not working...at least for me, after several attempts. After clicking on "Add now" it goes to a blank page.

    Yep, adding books doesn't seem to work. Hopefully it will be fixed soon again.

    This is a great feature! I managed to add a book information but uploading the cover is still not working. Hopefully somebody will look into this soon.

    I can't enter title, author or Isbn, not possible to write anything in the said boxes. Apparently it hasn't been working since 17th June. Are you folks not reading our comment?

    What is the proper way to enter short story collections? I have a short story collection called Alfred Hitchcock's Spellbinders In Suspense. The book is pre-ISBN and Authors are various. How do I enter this, or find it if it is already there?

    Hey... I am not sure if this may help... for those who are not able to add a new book, you can try installing (or upgrading) Macromedia Flash Player (or Shockwave Flash Object)... I faced problem to upload the cover in two PCs previously (but I could add a book). I downloaded the flash9e.ocx and put the file in c:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash and that solved the problem. However, I am not sure it could apply to other PCs. For those who could not even add a book, I guess the Flash Player should be installed... Good luck! :)

    it would be fantastic if there was some "quality control" over this add-your-own-book feature. I just loaded this application today and have been incredibly frustrated with the excessive repetitions of books that I go to look up. Some books are not only duplicates or triplicates, but have more than 4 or 5 copies of the exact same information. If would be lovely if the creators could merge these entries (since there are user reviews) so searching can be a bit more streamlined. Thanks. Also, if the entry is a potential duplicate, maybe those entries should be checked by a human (staff member, that is) and be verified before being posted.

    I think it's useful to have different book covers for the same book, different editions come out, in different languages and different countries. One cover can't cover every version of the book. However, it's not useful to have reviews, ratings etc. of the same book scattered across these seperate versions. Is it possible to group different versions of the same book? Also, is it possible to group the books in a series together as one entry os the whole can be reviewed.

    I agree with Matthew. At the moment, the application allows us to upload multiple covers, which is good. If the application could allow multiple book names, authors and ISBN numbers for a book, that will facilitate searching and encourage users to rate the same book of different versions (or more importantly different languages). Also, maybe a "Merge" feature can be provided for the user to merge two versions of a same book... oh.. hope we are not too demanding... :)

    i am trying to add TUNNEL VISION by Shandana Minhas -- but this application is not working. I cant seem to be able to type in the title/author or ISBN in the given space

    To many of the same books. Should not be possible to enter/add books without logging the ISBN number. Have searched several books on ISBN but not found any, after lots of searching they sometimes come up anyhow, with the same front picture. If every entry/adding had to have an ISBN we would easier see if the particular book was already added. Another thing: in the ISBN space should we put in ISBN XXX-XX-XX-XXXXX-X , or only the numbers without letters and spaces?

    I've added a book not in the db: author, title, isbn and uploaded the cover, but cannot add this book to my shelf, there is an error on the page, search for Chris Karstens, it's the last book in the list, called "Frats".

    i really love this application. but there are a few things i think it could use. mainly i think that there should be something like "books you have in common" like if i were to go to someones page and see what books we both have on our lists. also, in the rolodex, it would be cool to be able to filter your books by "want it" or "borrowed it" or whatever. two minor things that ive been seeing on a lot of sites nowadays, is when you start to type, it give you recommendations. like if i were to write "harr" it would give me a list of books that started with that. like harry potter or whatever. something else thats more so annoying than it is important is when you type a book and there are 15 of the same books up. for instance type in dorian gray and there are 30 something pages of that one book.... i dont really know what you could do to monitor this but its just a suggestion. :-) An avid user, Sean Cunningham

    about several pictures/editions of the same book problem. Found this Virtual bookshelf called Shelfari and they have solved this problem that there's only one listing of each book but you can select which edition you have so you can get the right cover picture to your shelf etc. I think that was good idea. I would only improve it so that you can also add your own edition with ISBN number so you could add translated editions.

    there is one problem though too many peolpe have already added duplicate books by only changing the title by adding (book 6) or by adding the illustrator. can you fix that somehow?
