"Follow" someone 27

Have you found someone who has the same tastes as you? Or perhaps you think they really write great reviews? You may not know or be friends with that person, but you want to know when they add a new book or write a new review.

Last night, we pushed a new feature that allows you to "follow" another ReadingSocial user. If you choose to follow others, relevant information such as what books they've added or what reviews they've written will show up on the news feed on your home page.

To follow someone, you need to simply navigate to his/her bookshelf and click the "follow" button on the image module. As always, please don't hesitate to provide suggestions and feedback!

Good idea. I've definitely found people in the past who shared a lot of my tastes. But it was difficult to keep up with them as it required that I navigate to whatever messageboard happens to link to them. This seems a lot easier. And hell this is for a social networking site, so we should be able to socialize.

Does the "Follow" feature over-ride the news feed settings of the person followed? Do the folks being "followed" know about their "followers"? This is a feature that can be used to solicit reviews and thoughts by the "followers" - in the sense, when someone who is "following" me sees that I added a new book as "already read", without adding a review, they can request me for my thoughts on it. I will be very interested in knowing what someone who I "follow" thought of a particular book.

here's what I can't figure out.... if I have the app installed on Myspace, for example, HOW do I link up with those friends? I can see how I can pull up a random site user and follow them, but I can't figure out how to link up with those that may only be using it through Myspace or Facebook or something like that.

This feature is great, long time I was waiting for. By the way, maybe it's already there and I didn't see it yet, is there a way to find people with the most books in common with you ? Thanks for the effort put in the site, it's really great.

I understand how the follow feature works, but I have friends who have signed up with Reading Social, but they don't display on my page as a friend who reads. How do I fix that?

How do I find which books I have in common with someone I'm following? Also it would be good, as others have said, to have some sort of ranking to show who shares the most books with you, and to be able to view those shared books by read, wanting to read etc.

Can I suggest also adding a recommend a book option to people in your friend's list with a little comment thing you can put why you're recommending it. I have a pretty active circle of reading buddies and we recommend books to each other all the time, it'd be nice if I could just use VBookshelf to send that book info straight to the person so they have all the info if they want to check it out themselves.

OK - Decent idea generally. But I have someone "stalking" me. That is - they are trying to get dirt on me by reading my reviews. I would like to be able to block specific people from "following" me, or opt-out entirely. Can we do this for personal privacy and safety?

it would be amazing if there're a function showing people with common books with me like in a ranking chart listing.

How do you delete someone you accidently followed!!
  24. KhakhalinAugust 28, 2008 @ 02:39 AM
You may add a feature of "finding people with tastes as close to yours as possible". Knowing a pattern of reading, it should be possible to do it automatically. I think it would a nice cloud-type network...

thanks! this was a good idea! Is there a spot where you can see all those who are following you? If not, that would be cool too.
  26. SJSeptember 02, 2008 @ 12:28 AM
I have accidentally "unfollowed" a friend by clicking the "following" button. How do I undo it? My friend's visual bookselve is profile-disabled so I can't "re-follow" it via the profile section. Pls advise?

is there any way to prevent someone from following you? ie: block particular users from using this feature to keep track of your reads?
